Vikidia:How to create your own page[edit | edit source]

On {{Welcome}}, used to welcome new users, there is a red link Vikidia:How to create your own page... Maybe one of the pages to be created this week? Klipe (talk) 14:33, 3 March 2014 (CET)

There are better titles than that. But you're right. Southparkfan 15:13, 3 March 2014 (CET)
Better titles... Indeed, at the very least that page should be part of the Help: space, not the Vikidia: space. As a tentative better name, I propose Help:Create your own user page where I also specify "user page" instead of just "page", and remove "how to" to avoid the title becoming too long. Smileys...[edit | edit source]

So, when we will have the smileys like here ? :O Adidas100 (discuss) 15:31, 3 March 2014 (CET)

As a start, I grouped the already available emoticons that I'm aware of in a category and listed them on Help:Emoticons Wink Klipe (talk) 00:27, 8 March 2014 (CET)

One month adminship for thilp[edit | edit source]

Hi there,

To his request, I've just granted the administrator rights to User:Thilp for testing purposes for one month. Thilp is a system administrator by the way. Astirmays (talk) 19:50, 6 March 2014 (CET)

Subject[edit | edit source]

Now, the fuction for add and remove permissions is off for the administrators? What do you think? Is better? -- Comedia Paperback book black gal.svg 21:59, 6 March 2014 (CET)

We talk about this with thilp and he going to active it now. Regards. -- Comedia Paperback book black gal.svg 21:59, 6 March 2014 (CET)
Why can't admins don't add/remove autopatrol anymore? Southparkfan 22:01, 6 March 2014 (CET)

Granting patroller without RfP[edit | edit source]

Comedia granted patroller to Orikrin1998. Altough I trust Orikrin1998 and I did updated the page about Autopatrol with something like "There is not in every case a RfP needed", may admins grant patroller without a RfP? Is there any consensus for updating the policy? Southparkfan 15:30, 7 March 2014 (CET)

I see enough consensus imo for granting autopatrol without a RfP and granting patroller without a RfP in some cases. I think there are no more users want to give their opinion about autopatrol. For patroller I still wait first. Regards, Southparkfan 15:23, 10 March 2014 (CET)

Other comments[edit | edit source]

Admins can grant the patroller right because it should not be too heavy for a user to get this right, especially to be able to import articles. Then what should be the condition for that ? "not under all circumstances" doesn't sounds bad, you may do it after this user or someone else (a regular user) would have proposed it on the talk page, and if there is no opposition after one day or two. You may even propose a list of user to be patroller, we would save time and still this would have been done before (in front of) the community. What do you think about that? Astirmays (talk) 23:30, 7 March 2014 (CET)

My point of view: a user getting advanced rights should know about it (so that he knows that he can perform some less usual actions and learns the corresponding tools) and agree with getting those rights (because it means an additional responsibility towards the community, even if the rights are used only seldom).
For the patroller right, I see 3 possible processes:
  1. The user may request patroller rights informally via the Vikidia:Talk page. No opposition for a few days means that any admin can then grant the rights. As for how many days, I'm quite sure that many users won't be able to connect every 2 days, so I'd suggest sticking to a full week.
  2. The user may be proposed as a patroller by an admin via the Vikidia:Talk page. I suggest the same rule applies as for the informal request above, plus that the user himself should confirm on Vikidia:Talk that he indeed agrees to get those rights.
  3. The user may request patroller rights formally, i.e. through a RfP. I propose this method be required when a previous attempt (either informal or formal) didn't succeed.
This may look a bit too formal, but I think that it's better to establish such rules quite early instead of having to change early loose rules when many more people are involved some years later. Don't you think so? Klipe (talk) 23:26, 8 March 2014 (CET)

Kicked off the Site[edit | edit source]

Once again I've been kicked off the site with the message "This page cannot be displayed". I spent an hour writing an article that is now lost. I won't recreate it. Too much work. It was 20 minutes before the site came up. What is going on? Is the admin shutting the site down for uninterrupted maintenance? Or what? I guarantee you this site will never be a success if readers and editors are routinely kicked off. A message needs to be posted to the Main Page by the admin responsible for this mess reading something like: "This site will shut down in 30 minutes for routine maintenance." Or something to that effect so editors and readers can finish up with whatever they're doing. SeeSpotRun (talk) 08:23, 9 March 2014 (CET)

As first it can happen that the site isn't available due to small problems (if I notify any problems I can contact our server hosters), these problems are most solved within a few minutes. As second I recommend editors to "save" their text by putting it in Word(Pad), Notepad or something like that if the article is big. If we are aware of maintenance on this website we'll create a sitenotice and post a message of course. Southparkfan 11:21, 9 March 2014 (CET)
Comment 2: It is better to save the text within 10/20 minutes, that is no problem but it can avoid loss of the whole text. I know that it isn't funny, text that has gone far away. But we can't do much. Southparkfan 11:24, 9 March 2014 (CET)
