www.vikidia.org[edit | edit source]

Hello,

I created a new welcome page for Vikidia (with english Vikidia now!) :
http://www.vikidia.org/index2.html

For those who are interested in creating new Vikidia in other languages, I created talk groups. You can subscribe by sending an email to the groups (or ask for another one!)

See you soon ! Plyd (talk) 15:36, 14 April 2014 (CEST)

@Southparkfan: yes, if you would like to exchange by email about Vikidia. If you want to subscribe, send an email to [email protected] . I think the talks on the mailing list will be close to the talks here but... Plyd (talk) 15:23, 21 April 2014 (CEST)

Introducing[edit | edit source]

Hi! I am introducing a new page, agreed by me and User:Southparkfan, I created Vikidia:Request for adminship to separate it from Vikidia:Request for permissions. There will be more pages to come.

New pages: Vikidia:Request for adminship/Draft

Hello! I welcome the initiative to define some clear process and rules. At the same time, it seems to me that some of the proposed criteria are too strong, considering the small size of the current community and the objective of having some children participating in admin tasks. Maybe some other criteria could be reinforced a bit. Let me go into more detail:
  • Even the usually most active admins may not be available for some days. It should be possible to work around the temporary inactivity of the usually active admins. While the community is small, keeping several somewhat inactive admins may help address such situations. These somewhat inactive admins may for instance be users that are usually active on another language version of Vikidia so that non-admin users on Vikidia in English could contact them there if the usual vd:en admins don't react quickly enough.
  • Block doesn't only happen in case of vandalism. Some short blocks may be useful to calm down people that may be too "enthusiastic" in expressing their ideas and/or just learn how to behave in a collaborative distributed environment. For instance, it may help to block both parties in an edit war, as a reminder that they should discuss first and come to agreements on sensible topics. Even when both parties are usually good contributors and none of them vandalized any page. Moreover, I'm convinced that people are not just "good" or "bad" once and for all. Instead of a life-long ban on adminship due to any block (which could event lead to sockpuppetting attempts), I would propose a much lighter — although more extended — requirement of "no block for at least 3 months on any Vikidia project" and complement this with "autopatrol on English Vikidia", which is an indication of current administrators being confident that this user won't vandalize.
  • On English Vikidia for at least 1 month... What about extending this to the same length as the "no block" requirement (3 months in my suggestion)? Otherwise that "no block" requirement may be seen as unfair...
  • At least 500 edits... Yes, but I think that we could add something like "at least 20 edits in the main space over each of the last 3 months" (again to make the "no block" requirement fair, and as an indication of some intended long term active involvement in the project).
  • Why 3 good reasons? Citing 1 good reason should be enough. A user may well be efficient as a "specialized" admin: why would we refuse his help? An admin focused on one kind of tasks may then get more and more confident as he learns the tools and the needs of the community. After having gained more experience, he may then evolve towards performing a wider range of tasks. If we don't allow for this adminship evolution path, then I fear that we'll barely ever get children of the Vikidia target public age being involved in admin tasks. That would be a pity.
By the way, remember that adminship will anyway not be granted automatically when the criteria are respected: there is still a discussing and voting process to be passed. Which I'd like to see extended to a period of 2 weeks instead of just 1, so that enough registered users may have a chance to participate (cf target age range and current size of the community).
Well... These are just my own thoughts and any comments or counter-arguments will obviously be welcome.

Thanks Klipe for your valid opinions, lets have Southparkfan add his agreement here. --Goldenburg111 (talk) 22:06, 23 April 2014 (CEST)
