Templates

It seems like Template:Stub is being used everywhere right now, and I don't know if we should create stub templates for all different kinds of articles (like Wikipedia). Maybe there should be a discussion about that. Also, you could also take a look at Special:WantedTemplates. Wynter (talk) 18:22, 17 September 2014 (CEST)

Elizabeth II

I think it should be partially rewritten, maybe keeping some of the content since the content seems fine (besides a few missing templates here and there). The template Template:Infobox monarch definitely needs to be reimported — I'll try to do that. Wynter (talk) 18:12, 24 September 2014 (CEST)

Hi Wynter,

I'm not that active but I still monitor the stuff here, and I saw your block. Thanks for that, but is indefinite not a bit long? Is a few months/weeks not better? I hid this as it (probably) shutdowns your system, perhaps with worse (I am not familiar with bat) consequences, and due to the purpose to "damage" a sysop's system, I will leave the decision to you. 1. I think indefinite is necessary because 1) we usually do it here for registered users (see Special:BlockList) and 2) fr:User:Legrand-g seems to show a pattern for long term abuse (if it is the same user).

Different hosting for Vikidia?

Hi Astirmays,

I am aware that Vikidia is having some issues with its current hosting, especially with image thumbnails. I was wondering: do you think Vikidia should be moved to a different host? I have been checking out a wiki hosting farm called Orain, which seems very nice. Some benefits:

• Latest MediaWiki software and extensions
• Single unified login (you can use the same account for every wiki)
• SSL (secure connection via HTTPS)
• Active support for the server and software
• Faster page loading via HHVM, etc.

We also would still be able to keep using the vikidia.org domain. What do you think? If we do plan to move, I would be glad to help out in any way. Wynter (talk) 21:06, 4 November 2014 (CET)

Hi Wynter, yes we think about moving to another host, we're working on it. I don't know Orain, I may tell the Vikidia's 2 or 3 sysops about it, yet they already have an idea about a hosting that would let them more rights and possibilities. Actually it would be a not free hosting, yet we can ask the money for that to Wikimédia France, which is eager to help us. Then it's just a matter of work: both the moving and asking properly for the funding.

Are you good in technical matters ? I know it's another think, but do you know how to make a wiki bot?

@Astirmays: OK, I wasn't aware that there already was a plan, which is why I suggested something. Do you mind keeping the Vikidia community updated on what's going on regarding the proposed move? Like I said, I'd be glad to help.

Hi, I wonder what the best would be for Vikidia. You can't rely on shared hosting when your wikis contain more than 20k whatever articles. Good servers for a wiki farm like this can cost a lot of money, and CentralAuth is much wanted.. Southparkfan 22:08, 5 November 2014 (CET)

We'll keep you updated on that matter. Servers for our wikis can cost something, but we can ask the money we need for that, we don't have to pay for it directly.

On bots, we have fr:Vikidia:Demandes aux robots, maybe we should do the same here ? I could have quite a few ideas of technical task to do. Oh yes, I think to one not too difficult: would you remind and show me where to change or make some global messages such as thes one we have on fr :

• "Par Vikidia, l’encyclopédie pour les jeunes, qui explique aux enfants..." on the bottom of each page,
• "Dieux de l'Olympe - Vikidia, l’encyclopédie des 8-13 ans" that we have in the title bar (between<title></title>),
• "Des questions ? Laisse un message" in front of the title of each article (not sure we have to put this one).

I think that especially having a proper title line can help the search engine to identify us as "for children" and get more readers.

Wynter, would you please block Jilly for harassment and disruption? http://en.vikidia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Jilly she keeps targetting me and disrupting my time here at Vikidia. It's best to simply close her importer request as unsuccessful since me and Comedia didn't support and 2 did. In which that is about 50% success, which is not passing. Also we don't want someone who thinks administrators only close RFAs and the requester can't withdrawn for importer, plus she even voted twice so that is a big no no. Hi there, I'm an Edit Filter Manager at the English Wikipedia - I'm just wondering why you've set a disallow rule on any external links in userspace?
