Apple Inc. is a multinational company American company founded by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne and specializing in computing, software, multimedia, and web services. Its headquarters are located at Apple Park in California. It shares a name with the fruit named apple.

It created and sells the iPod, the iPhone, Mac computers, and the Apple TV VOD service. The company also sells audio equipment (headphones, speakers, etc.) under the Beats brand. Founded on April 1, 1976 by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne, it is currently led by Timothy D. Cook. The former CEO was Steve Jobs, born on February 24, 1955, in San Francisco (California) and died of pancreatic cancer on October 5, 2011. For several years, Apple has partnered with RED, which supports the global fight against AIDS.

Apple products are characterized by the special attention paid to design and detail (often, computers or music players have no visible screws, few solder joints, and the products are often lightweight and slim) but also by the fact that Apple develops not only the operating system but also the hardware and chips (now Apple silicon), thereby enjoying great freedom and control over its devices.

It is the main competitor of Microsoft, particularly with regard to operating systems for computers.

More than half of Apple's sales come from its iPhones.

As of early 2024, Apple is the world's #1 smartphone manufacturer, ahead of Samsung and Xiaomi and the world's 4th-largest computer manufacturer behind Dell. The macOS operating system accounts for 15% of the global market share.

Apple was founded on April 1, 1976, in the garage of Steve Jobs's home in Los Altos, California. Steve Jobs wanted to make computers accessible to everyone while making them less bulky and less expensive than those of the tech giant IBM, which held a monopoly. With his friends Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne, he began by developing the Apple I, a personal computer made of wood that Wozniak had designed.

In 1977, Apple launched the Apple II, the first mass-produced personal computer with a graphical user interface, making it easier for the general public to use. This model was a huge success and helped popularize personal computers.

Over the years, Apple continued to innovate with products like the Macintosh in 1984, which introduced the mouse and an improved graphical user interface. The company experienced ups and downs, including a change in leadership and the temporary departure of Steve Jobs (who went on to create NeXT). Steve Jobs also had various disputes with Microsoft regarding Windows 1.0, as Steve believed that Bill Gates had copied Apple’s graphical interface (Steve Jobs, incidentally, had copied the interface from Xerox).

Steve Jobs returned to Apple in 1997 and revitalized the company with new products such as the iMac, iPod, iPhone, and iPad, which revolutionized the computer, music, mobile phone, and tablet industries, respectively. Today, Apple is the most powerful company in the world and one of the most innovative.
