William Henry Gates III, or simply Bill Gates, is an American computer scientist and former business leader. He was born on October 28, 1955 in Seattle, Washington, in the United States of America.

Bill Gates first became famous for co-founding a computer software company titled Microsoft with Paul Allen in 1975. They released an entire series of computer operating systems titled Microsoft Windows, which have been revolutionary around the world for several decades.

Gates would later also become well known for his involvement in philanthropy with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, founded in 2000, that aims to combat deadly diseases in third-world areas like Africa.

The commercial success of Microsoft has made Bill Gates one of the richest people in the world. As of June 2025, Gates is the thirteenth richest person in the world, with a personal fortune estimated at more than 116 billion dollars.[1] Gates plans to give away a majority most of his fortune to charitable causes by 2045.[2]
