Wiki challenge creation

Hi. I'm Christian, one of the administrators. I've just seen all your edits about the Wiki challenge you created, and I'd like to ask who you sought permission from here, in order to set this up? I can find nobody here who appears to have spoken to you about it. Anything like this needs to be discussed, not just set up without consent. I had no idea I needed to ask permission to participate to Vikidia beyond a couple of simple edits. This is kind of weird I must say. It simply never crossed my mind to ask permission to run a project. This being said... whilst I never thought of asking permission to administrators on THIS wiki, the Vikidia association board is aware of the existence of the WikiChallenge and I told them about this English version on March 10th by email, informing them that we would do a project in Sierra Leone, in English, soon. And I said that that I thought it would be a good idea to have a meeting one day to chat. I did not receive any email telling me that it was absolutely not acceptable. Anyway, let me then officially seek for permission here Vikidia:Administrators (I am not sure where would be a better idea given that not much is happening on this wiki anyway). With no disrespect, if you consider that not much is happening here, is it actually worth running the project at all? We get very few users, a huge amount of spam and self promotional accounts, and I have to say that you're unlikely to get much participation in the event. To my knowledge, we've never participated in this before, despite the fact that I note it is apparently done every year on the French Vikidia. I'm sorry to have bitten at you, it just seemed odd that this turned up out of nowhere, given we'd never done it before. DaneGeld (Talk to me!) 23:35, 23 March 2023 (UTC)

I understand. That’s ok. Well... the thing is... there is no other space in English that would host edits from children. I believe this is exactly in Vikidia mission to let kids participate. They can not do on Wikipedia (too complicated). This is the right space. There is no worry about children participation here. None of the kids we will involve have access to Internet. They do know and use Vikidia through Kiwix distribution, as well as tablets and servers offered by Orange Foundation. So they do have access offline to Vikidia and Wikipedia. But they can not participate directly, only by proxy.

You are right that the problem will be the limited community here. I agree. This is an issue to work on. But the addition of articles itself will take place within about a month and I will be there when it happens. Anthere (talk) 00:26, 24 March 2023 (UTC)

This was a mistake, as I had intended to click on a link very close to it, and missed! I have undone my mistake, so the page is at the version you created. Sorry 😔.
