Greenland (Kalaallit Nunaat) is technically a part of Denmark and not a country. It is located east of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago. Greenland, the country, consists of the island of the same name, the largest island on Earth as well as a few others islands nearby.
In April of 1941, Greenland was occupied by the United States, because they feared Germany might have tried to invade Greenland. This continued until 1945, and in 1946, the United States attempted to buy Greenland from Denmark for $100,000,000, which today would be equivalent to nearly $1.3 Billion, but Denmark did not sell it.
