Genghis Khan (c. 1162 - August 25, 1227), was the first Great Khan of the Mongol Empire from 1206 until his death in 1227. His real name was Temüjin and his temple name was Taizu.
Before he died, he appointed Ögedei Khan as his successor. He also divided his empire for his children and grandchildren. he died in 1227 after he had defeated the Tanguts. It is not known where he was buried.
His followers continued to expand the empire by conquering large parts of Eurasia, China, Korea, the Caucasus, and parts of Eastern Europe, and the Middle East.
