Carrot cakes.

The carrot cake is a Swiss cake made with mixed carrots, which is moist thanks to wet ingredients such as eggs.

Origins[edit | edit source]

One of the oldest recipes comes from Kaiseraugst (Canton of Aargau, Switzerland). It is one of the most popular cakes in Switzerland, especially for birthdays.

It became popular in Great Britain during the Second World War.

Carrot cakes, with cream-cheese icing, can be found in American restaurants and cafeterias.

Ingredients[edit | edit source]

Mixed carrots with eggs and sugar, and dry ingredients such as kirsch, cinnamon, nuts, pineapple or raisins.

They are covered with icing sugar and lemon juice. In the States, butter and cream cheese are added.
