Vikidia:Translation
Translating articles to Vikidia in English can be a good way to improve the content.

Importing articles translated with Duolingo[change | change source]
The process to import articles translated with Duolingo is:
- you must have the patroller flag to get the import right. Ask for it if you don't have it yet.
- if the original article comes from Vikidia in French:
- go on Special:Import,
- choose as "Source wiki/page:" "fr"
- paste the original title of the article, clic on "Import"
- if it comes from another Vikidia:
- go to this wiki, go to the Special:Export page on this wiki, (for example es:Especial:Exportar on Vikidia in Spanish)
- paste the original title of the article and export the article to a file,
- go on Special:Import,
- choose as "Upload XML data"
- find your file,
- clic on upload file.
- Then rename the article to the English title you have chosen for it,
- go on the Duolingo page of the translation, choose "legend" - "Download current translation", you'll have it on a .txt document,
- edit the article and paste the translation, with a link to the Duolingo page of the translation to give credit to the translators (such as "translation of fr:article by users of Duolingo : htt ps://www.duolingo.com/translation/a2e3.........")
- fix the article,
- you may especially recover the images from the article in the original language (Fichier: or Archivo: equals File: ...) and recover and fix the interwiki links.
There is now one more big and good article on an important subject on this wiki ! :-)
Uploading articles on Duolingo to be translated[change | change source]
- create an account on Duolingo,
- This section is empty or incomplete. You can help by expanding it!
- choose carefully an article to import,
pick-up its link (not only the title)
- go on "immersion" on Duolingo, then go on "upload a document",
- choose "Free translation", paste the link,
- Pick a category that best fits, choose the language to translate to and click on "Submit" !
- It's done!
Titles[change | change source]
While translating an article, mostly from another Wikipedia,one hase to choose the titles carefully, especially to avoid duplicate/doubloon. The best way is find the title is to look at the original page, follow the Simple English Wikipedia interwiki link if it does exist, or follow the same language Wikipedia to the English Wikipedia interwiki link. See also: Vikidia:Article titles. Also make some redirects.
Still in some case we may choose another title than the one given on en.wikipedia : to be simplier or to define a bit differently the subject.
They must be some means to get automatically (for a list of titles) their counterparts in English still trought the Wikipedia interlanguage links. It is available not only for titles but for any wikilink of a Wikipedia page to translate. To our present knowledge, it isn't directly available for us right know.
List of good article from Vikidia in French[change | change source]
Herer is a list of nearly 800 articles that certainly deserve to be translated.
This list comes from two sources. They were even rated and classified for the presumably most essential page to translate and import on en.vikidia.org. These sources are indicated so you can choose an article to translate while knowing it.

Articles of the week of fr.vikidia[change | change source]
Articles of the week on Vikidia in French (fr:Vikidia:Article de la semaine) are nominated and chosen by a vote once a month. They certainly bring together most of the best articles that are on this wiki: about 400 out of 17,000 articles.
Most popular pages on fr.vikidia.org[change | change source]
These articles were extracted from fr:Spécial:Pages les plus visitées (popular pages).
We don't fully know why a page is popular (= is one of the most viewed one on the wiki). It can be because people no other resource does exist with the precise title we have, (there is not always articles with the same titles on Wikipedia in French, such as fr:Maison romaine). It can be because they fit well in a subject which is in the French curriculum for children (some articles and subject may be French or France-centred). Yet we can guess that these pages were rated by the search engine for some quality clues or signs of reader's satisfaction. Another thing is that being frequently viewed, they are more eager to be proof-read and bettered, be it after some vandalism. And they certainly are some of the "vital articles" for an encyclopedia.
