Vice President of Brazil

The current Vice President of Brazil, Geraldo Alckmin.

In Brazil, the Vice President of the Republic is the second-highest ranking official in the executive branch of the Brazilian federal government , second only to the president of Brazil, and ranks first in presidential succession.

Its function is to take over from the President when he travels abroad or encounters obstacles, and to take over when the President of Brazil resigns, dies or is removed by specific procedures. He must also make recommendations to the Presidentif he asks.

The current constitution provides additional laws to give the vice president new powers. Throughout history, there have been eight vice presidents who have served as the current president.
