Mahalapye is a town in eastern part of Botswana. It is located about 200 kilometres north of Gaborone, the capital city of Botswana. The town lies along the main road and railway line that connects Gaborone and Francistown. Because of its location, Mahalapye is an important stop for transport and travel in the country. [1] Botswana.Mahalapye had a population of about 40,000 people according to the 2022 national census.

The area around Mahalapye has traditionally been inhabited by the Bangwato people and the Bangwato people are one of the largest ethnic groups in the country. The town grew during the colonial period when a railway line was built through the area. Because the railway and the main road passed through the town, Mahalapye developed as a place where people could trade and travel.[2]
People and Languages[change | change source]
Most people in Mahalapye speak Setswana, which is Botswana’s national language. English is also widely spoken, especially in schools and government offices. The population has grown steadily due to migration from nearby villages.[2]
