Portrait of Jean-François Champollion

Jean-François Champollion, nicknamed Champollion le Jeune (Champollion Jr.), is a French historian considered the father of Egyptology. He deciphered the Egyptian hieroglyphs, thanks to the Rosetta Stone. He travelled in Egypt for a year and a half. A Champollion Museum is dedicated to him, located in his birth house, and another Champollion museum, in Vif, France.
