A decimal is the part of the number that is smaller than 1 whole. They are seperated by the decimal point which looks like this ..We use decimals for money when we talk cents (0.01) in money.
Decimal place value[edit | edit source]
- 0.1 (1 tenth). It is the first place value to the right of the decimal point.
- 0.01 (1 hundredth). Its the second place value to the right of the decimal and ten times smaller than a tenth.
- 0.001 (1 thousandth). Thousandths are ten times smaller than hundredths and the prefix milli means 1 thousandth. They are the 3rd place value to the right of the decimal point.
- 0.0001 (1 ten thousandth). Ten thousandths are the 4th place value to the right of the decimal point.
