Creative Commons is an American organization formed in 2001. It has more open copyright licenses that allow for more free use than the copyright of products sold by major corporations.
Their most common license is Creative Commons Share-Alike (CC-BY-SA), that require a list of authors or a link to the original source to give credit; it is the standard license used by wikis, Wikipedia included.
There is also the Creative Commons Non-Commercial Share-Alike (CC-BY-NC-SA) license, which has the same requirements as CC-BY-SA, except it does not allow someone to make money off of it.
