Battle of Gettysburg
The Battle of Gettysburg was a battle fought between July 1-3, 1863 by Union forces and the armies of the Confederacy. Union Maj. Gen. George Meade's Army of the Potomac defeated attacks by Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia, ending Lee's attempt to invade the North. The battle was one of the bloodiest battles of the American Civil War with the largest number of casualties. It is often cited as the turning point of the war.
