The PlayStation 3 (PS3) is a home video game console developed and marketed by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The successor to the PlayStation 2, it is part of the PlayStation brand of consoles. Containing a high-definition Blu-ray drive that also reads DVDs, CDs and SACD discs, the PS3 uses the Cell processor, which is considerably more powerful than the CPU in the PlayStation 2 (PS2). Original Model (Phat) – This is the first model that Sony released in November 2006. They released versions that included various hard-drives sizes, including: 20, 40, 60, 80, and 160GB versions. As of 2023, the “PlayStation 3 (PS3)” has been officially discontinued by Sony, and production has ceased. The current-generation console during this period is its successor, the “PlayStation 4 (PS4)”.
