Nintendo 3DS

The Nintendo 3DS is a foldable handheld game console produced by Nintendo. The console was announced in March 2010 and unveiled at E3 2010 as the successor to the Nintendo DS. The system features backward compatibility with Nintendo DS video games. On April 8, 2024, Nintendo officially ended support for online services on the Wii U and Nintendo 3ds. While players knew a Wii U and 3DS server shut down would come eventually, it's still a major disappointment for fans of online games like Splatoon and Mario Kart. But today 3DS runs on Pretendo servers much like the Wii Running on Wiimmfi servers after its shutdown in 2014. As of September 30, 2022, the Nintendo 3DS family of systems combined have sold 75.94 million units, and games for the systems have sold 388.89 million units. The 3DS had multiple variants over the course of its life. Despite all this, the 3DS went on to sell 76 million units, almost as much as the GameBoy Advance at 81.5 million, despite the GBA having no direct competitor. It curbstomped the Vita's 15 million units by a 5:1 margin. And as of March 27, 2023, DSiWare games and apps are no longer available for purchase, coinciding with the worldwide closure of the Nintendo eShop Nintendo 3DS.
