The Worker's Party of Korea is the ruling political party of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. It adheres to the ideologies of Marxism-Leninism and Juche, and it currently has 607 seats in the Supreme People's Assembly. The WPK was founded on June 30th, 1949, following the merger of the North Korean Worker's Party (which operated in Soviet controlled territory in the North) and the South Korean Worker's Party (which operated in U.S controlled territory in the South).
