Winnipeg is a city in southern Canada, located where the Red River and Assiniboine River meet. It is the capital of the province of Manitoba, and Manitoba's largest city. In 2016, it had 705,244 people living in it. It is also sometimes called "Winterpeg," because it is cold in the winter. It was created so that people could trade with each other more easily. It became a city in 1873.

Winnipeg is famous for its many festivals, including Folklorama, Winnipeg Folk Festival and the Winnipeg Fringe Festival. It is also home to the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, the oldest ballet company and school in North America.
