Flaw on Main Page[edit | edit source]

Refer to previous comment at Talk:Main Page#Star article displays outdated version. A reply there would be helpful. Deborahjay (talk) 10:53, 1 February 2022 (UTC)

Missing from Active Users page[edit | edit source]

Just now I checked the Special:Active users page from Statistics on the Main Page - and don't see User:Adnan, who has certainly make edits in the past 30 days. Is there a problem that needs attention? Deborahjay (talk) 20:10, 1 February 2022 (UTC)

Thank you for flagging this up. It's definitely an error. I'm on there, you're on there, CaesarAugustus is on there, even the vandals we had on mid last week are there. Why Adnan isn't, I don't know, but I'm going to find out. I'm going to pass this up to Linedwell, who is a global sysop and system administrator for Vikidia, and get him to investigate it for us. I'm just wondering what it counts as activity? Does it mean physical login and logout, or does it count all activity including edits? Thanks again, and I'll get back to you! Hi again Notification Deborahjay:; I have had a brief conversation with the team on #mediawiki via IRC, and it transpires that Special:ActiveUsers is not a constantly updated total of everyone active. Both it, and Special:Statistics contradict each other, because they use different parts of the mediawiki software, to get their information, and they do it in different ways. It's more intended I think, to be an average rather than a continuously changing list. I am going to follow up with #mediawiki tomorrow, when I have had a chance to read more of their documentation on how this works. Thanks again for the query, I'll keep you updated. DaneGeld (talk) 21:30, 1 February 2022 (UTC)

Notification DaneGeld:, thank you for the ongoing update. I consider the "Active Users" valuable to maintain in a current state for two reasons: it's a snapshot of who/what/when the project is in process, and also provides hot links for details on each user. I first encountered this when contributing on a half-dozen underserved African-language Wikipedias, and it was important to me for ensuring my presence was clearly visible and accessible. I'll continue to report here on features that don't function as expected, and look forward to explanations. Deborahjay (talk) 11:46, 2 February 2022 (UTC)

I agree Deborahjay, it should be maintained in a current state. Do you think this might be worth raising on the Mediawiki Phabricator, as a bug or a suggestion? Ultimately We're all using the range software, so this may benefit Wikipedia as well as us! What do you think? DaneGeld (talk) 12:33, 2 February 2022 (UTC)
Notification DaneGeld:, this is entirely worth taking up to the appropriate technical channel for diagnosis and fixing. The one detail I can provide from observation: at least one active user's name (and all other info) hasn't appeared for two consecutive days that I've noticed. My own name and content appear every day and seem to update regularly, though I haven't checked it systematically. Will you proceed from here? Deborahjay (talk) 13:54, 2 February 2022 (UTC)
Yes, Deborahjay, I will. I have a Phabricator account, so I'll put this through for attention and see who picks it up and what they do with it. When I get a ticket number, I'll post it here for you to follow. DaneGeld (talk) 14:55, 2 February 2022 (UTC)
Notification Deborahjay: - I have finally got round to authoring the request on Phabricator; the link to it is here: https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T301022 - It's been sent to Aklapper, who I think deals directly with Feature requests. I've not filed it as a bug, so it'll go through to be looked at and considered for implementation (hopefully). If you have any questions, feel free to ask, and you can always subscribe yourself to the report so you get emailed when it's changed! DaneGeld (talk) 00:00, 5 February 2022 (UTC)
Notification DaneGeld: - Thanks for taking action and the update. I subscribed on Phabricator, as you suggested, in hopes I can learn more of the terminology as a solution emerges. Meanwhile, in the past two days the previously missing Active User:Adnan has reappeared, while (suspiciously?) the number of active users for the recent 30-day period is always 22. Looking forward to improvements! - Deborahjay (talk) 12:07, 5 February 2022 (UTC)

Game Boy[edit | edit source]

Hi, I am confused? Can you check if game boy is plagiarised? I did not create the article. I saw in Vikidia: Request for deletion. Please check. S25265 message? 12:09, 2 February 2022 (UTC)

Sure I can check it, but I'm out and mobile at the moment. I'll get back to you tonight when I have more time! DaneGeld (talk) 13:15, 2 February 2022 (UTC)

System user error[edit | edit source]

Am I supposed to be autoconfirmed by now? Is this an error? S25265 Try yourself!! 23:04, 3 February 2022 (UTC)

I'm not sure. I know for Wikipedia, Autoconfirmed is 10 edits and 4 days. What the actual limit here is, I don't know. I'll have to check with a system administrator for the exact details. DaneGeld (talk) 00:26, 4 February 2022 (UTC)
