Thilp (administrator)

Thilp (talk | contribs | blocks | UserRights)

Hi,

I am thilp, administrator and abusefilter on the French-speaking Vikidia, and system administrator of all Vikidia versions. I believe that this wiki could benefit from having one more experienced, often-available administrator watching over when the others are not available. Because both my work and hobbies involve an almost uninterrupted use of the computer, I am reachable all day (and part of the night) via my talk page and IRC (#vikidia).

Of course, I understand that (unless you have spent some time on other Vikidia versions) you don't have much data to base your choice on, and thus that you might be reluctant to trust me — I'm completely fine with that. If that helps, please know that, as system administrator, I am used to deal with huge responsibilities and already trusted by numerous contributors.

Thank you for your time! ~thilp? 11:04, 20 November 2014 (CET)

  1. He has some admin experience on the French Vikidia. And if the Vikidia Foundation trusts him with system adminship, then why not trust him as a local admin here? Even though he is not very active at the moment, becoming an active admin around here would really help. Wynter (talk) 19:00, 20 November 2014 (CET)
  2. This applicant for this permission looks to be quite trustworthy if the Vikidia Foundation trusts and supports him. I think s/he could be a great asset to the English Vikidia. I like the part in his statement where s/he says they are around the computer all day at work. I think we need more admins available at all different times. Jilly (talk) 19:30, 20 November 2014 (CET)

Questions/notes

  1. What are you going to do in terms of administrative tasks? Do you plan to be more active if you are granted this right? Thanks! George Edward CTalkContributions 19:02, 20 November 2014 (CET)
    • I don't plan to restrict myself to a specific subset of administrative tasks: if accepted, I will act here the same as on the French Vikidia ("cultural" differences aside), which means using any admin tool when necessary. To give you an idea, this "same" generally includes (but is not limited to) counter-vandalism and solving consensual/urgent requests on Vikidia:Request for administrators.
    • Right granted or not, I'm willing to be more active on this version of Vikidia. With more permissions and therefore more opportunities to contribute, the quantity of my time spent here will inevitably increase. Besides, if that's your concern, with a continuous presence on FR since 2009, I'm not the kind of guy that leaves one month after its arrival. Wink However, I cannot tell that I will contribute to a lot of articles for now. That's something I like, but right now I have not enough "uninterrupted free time" at my disposal to do anything but short (albeit frequent) tasks — which admin ones fortunately are.

  2. What time periods speaking in UTC time do you think you would have most time to handle admin duties? May I ask what time zone yo actually live, work, and reside in? Thank you and good luck to you! Jilly (talk) 19:35, 20 November 2014 (CET)
    My time zone is CET/CEST (Paris, Berlin), i.e. UTC+1 at the moment. I obviously can't give a detailed daily schedule but [8AM, 5PM] + [7PM, ~2AM] (UTC) is quite representative. ~thilp? 21:16, 20 November 2014 (CET)
  3. Hi thilp, as first I want to say that I can not immediately support a request where the one asking rights (you) has not even made 50 edits, and I am not convinced there is a big need for new sysops (on the other side I appreciate your request though). Also, the English Vikidia now has eight sysops, and in the case of at least three sysops, are their 50 latest edits going back to February 2014 (and in one case even December 2013). Do you think they should keep their rights, or have them removed (this wiki is not so large so it isn't a very big issue, but we should keep the amount of sysops limited)? Southparkfan 00:59, 22 November 2014 (CET)
Hi Southparkfan. I would consider two parameters: security and how you want adminship to be perceived here. Since I happen to know those who you are referring to, I'm not concerned by security in this particular case – although I have supported our policy on fr.vikidia to suspend (not remove) adminship after one year without contribution, as I believe it could give a bit of protection against password hijacking. On the "public relations" side I cannot be so sure, since I have yet to learn some of these cultural differences I mentioned. What is your policy on the matter? (Short answer: On fr, no action would be taken for now, because they can be useful again, and that would be my position without knowing more of your policy.)
Anyway, my request was triggered by the fact that what is likely a malformed edit has been able to degenerate in a small "rollback war" that has raged on for a few days, and this simply because the admins have not taken action sooner (I am not at all pointing fingers here: I know very well that we can't be always monitoring the RC page, and that's exactly my point when I propose my help). I for sure have a less accurate perception of this wiki's needs than you, and according to other's reactions I'm sure this episode was an exception, but it remains the cause of me believing the need for more sysops here is real. ~thilp? 03:13, 22 November 2014 (CET)

Conclusion

No opposition, thilp is now an administrator. Linedwell (talk) 19:05, 2 December 2014 (CET)
