We use protection in order to control who can access pages, and so that we can stop pages which are vandalised a lot, from being attacked. There are different grades of protection for pages, which are listed below.
No Protection[edit | edit source]
This page is not protected. It can be edited and moved (unless move protection is in place) by anyone except blocked users. This is the standard for all normal articles and talk pages.
Semi Protection[edit | edit source]
This page is protected and can be only edited and/or moved by Autoconfirmed users. User accounts must be at least 4 days of age from account creation and should have made at least 10 edits. This is for pages that get damage from unregistered users (IP addresses) and newly registered users & bot accounts.
Full Protection[edit | edit source]
This page is protected and can be only edited and/or moved by administrators. Anyone who is not an administrator can not edit and/or move the page. This is for pages that Level 2 protection failed to protect.Pages with Level 3 protection usually have a protection template.
Move Protection[edit | edit source]
This page protects the page from being renamed (moved).
Create Page Protection[edit | edit source]
Protects the page from being recreated. This is for pages that have been deleted, but which keep getting made again.
Duration of Protection[edit | edit source]
Pages are usually only protected for a short period of time. This can be done for example, if the page is getting changed quickly because of news or another important event. Sometimes, pages may be subject to a longer period of protection - maybe even forever. This is because these pages will either have a subject which causes arguments and attracts vandalism, or it may be because the page is an important one within Vikidia, like a template that we would use on lots of pages. These should only be changed by administrators, bureaucrats and global sysops (SYStem OPerators).
