What in particular needs to be done on this Wiki (or should I say Viki?) Plus is there any guidelines of what can go on this wiki (viki)? George.Edward.C (Talk) (Contributions) 10:42, 14 September 2014 (CEST)
Hi George, see Vikidia:Basic principles#Content for some guidelines. These may become more precise over time, when the community will build a kind of "case law". Right now, Vikidia in English is still very young, so I'd say that covering a wide range of topics with basic information is probably the most useful task, so that the wiki becomes known and useful to children looking for information in the context of their homework or personal interests. How to create a category?[edit source]

Hello! Happy I have a question: do you know how to create a category? I saw that the categories "Fauna of America", "Fauna of North America" and "Fauna of South America" exist, but other categories like "Fauna of Europe" don't exist. I would like to create them, but I don't know how to do it and how to put the right articles in a new category... Bumblebee (talk) 15:06, 5 October 2014 (CEST)

Easy! To add the category, put [[Category:Insert category]] (of course change "Insert Category" with whatever you want) To add text to the category, just click on the link below the article and add the text! Hope this helped, George.Edward.C (Talk) (Contributions) 15:21, 5 October 2014 (CEST)

Mercury and Venus translations from Vikidia:fr[edit source]

Hello George.Edward.C,

Since the content was a translation attempt from Vikidia.fr, calling it plagiarism is probably excessive : all what's missing is proper credit. Instead of reverting those translation attempts, I would just have added a Sources section at the end, with a sentence such as "Most of the content as on 15 October 2014 was translated from the corresponding page Mercure on Vikidia in French.".

Of course, the next step would then be for someone to improve the translation... Maybe the biggest issue with those edits is actually that the translation seems to have been performed mostly by some translation software or web site. This process should probably be discouraged altogether, since it may be even more difficult to revise and correct such a translation than just doing it manually from the original language.

What do you think? Should we actually revert such edits with a comment along the lines "Poor quality translation from Vikidia.fr: revising it will take more time than starting over again."?

Klipe (talk) 11:14, 16 October 2014 (CEST)

I suppose a revert was excessive. If you ever disagree, please just revert my edit. Google Translate, as always, is depreciated (especially when it is poor quality), so simple knowledge of both languages is preffered. I think the edit summary would be appropriate, however we should warn repeat offenders. Sorry for the late reply (was on a field trip) George.Edward.C (Talk) (Contributions) 19:31, 16 October 2014 (CEST)

Wikify (wikification?)[edit source]

Hi George.Edward.C, I can see you are working on the articles I imported! :-) There one thing that still needs to be done, its to wikify them. Would you do some of it? I use to check if the title which I wikify to does exist on simple or english Wikipedia, so it will be created there once with the right title, and we have less risk to have some "duplicates" (we say doublons in French). Thanks for your work! Astirmays (talk) 20:09, 22 October 2014 (CEST)

I'd be happy to! Let me know when you need some work done! George.Edward.C (Talk) (Contributions) 20:22, 22 October 2014 (CEST)
