WORLD WAR II

World War 2 started on the first of September 1939 and ended on the second of September 1945.It started because Nazi Germany invaded Poland and then Neville Chamberlain [the prime minister at the time] declared war on Germany.The axis of England was japan Italy and Germany and the main allies were America France and Poland.

Evacuation

Evacuation was where thousands of children across England were separated from their parents and moved to the countryside such as:Kettering becuase of the blitz in the major cities which had most of the population back then.It started when Nazi bomber bombed numerous big cities for example London. Mostly children were evacuated to the countryside where they were collected by host families. They were to help them do chores.

Evacuee experience

From many primary sources it is clear that evacuation was an unpleasant experience for example some girl evacuees were treated horribly like unpaid maids and some were bullied at the school in the countryside. However for some children their experience of the evacuation was an adventurous time.

The Blitz

The Blitz started on the 7th of September 1940 and ended on the 11th May 1941 . Nazi forces spread and bombed big cities in the dead of night this is why the evacuation started so the big cities in England invented the blackout. This is when the Nazi infiltrated high populated places ,factories and docks. Sirens would let out a deafening sound which would warn people to go in their shelters and of course turn off their lights.

Rationing

Rationing was one of the main parts of the war and why England won the war. Rationing was where Nazis blew up major factories which made sources to win the war such as food and weaponry this is where rationing came in.
