A tortoise on the Galápagos Islands

Tortoises are reptiles that have shells. The term tortoise usually refers to turtles that live on land.

There are many species and sub-species of tortoises, which are of the family Testudinidae. Many tortoises also make good pets.

They get many parasites and worms.


SEEING IF A TORTOISE IS DEAD

1) Touch legs if no response go to step two.

2) Pat head gently then harder if no response.

3) As a last resort put in luke warm water submerge if no bubbles come out your tortoise is dead.


If you have two tortoises and one dies get a new one as the may pine to death for it.

FOOD AND DRINK

Do not take notice of websites that say buttercups are not good for them they are

Celendine, Buttercup, Apple, Tomatoes (no pips they get stuck in digestive system), Bean flowers, Graps, Lettuce, Dandylion leaves (the smallest are best) and fruits but NOT sharp tasting fruits


WEES AND POOS

The normal tortoise will pass about 5 to 7 wees 4 times its surface area and poos about the size of one of its legs.

They might pass stones normally white as they eat them.They will block up your tortoises system.

DO NOT LEAVE POOS AND WEES IN THE CAGE


OUT DOORS

A good owner will give their tortoises 1 walk of 45 minuets a day in the sun on grass and/or soil and stone it will wear their claws down but not if your species is hibarnating.
