Otebay Kanakhin (17 December 1923 - 1990), was a Kazakh writer. He was born on December 17 in the village of Tauip, Yrgyz District, Aktobe Region.

He took part in the Great Patriotic War. In 1960, he graduated from the Faculty of Philology of the Kazakh State University. He came to literature in the fifties.
