Neptune is a planet in the Solar System. It is the eighth-closest and farthest planet from the Sun. It was named after Neptune, a god in Roman mythology.
The planet was discovered on September 23, 1846 by Johann Gottfried Galle.
Neptune has 14 known moons. Neptune's largest moon, Triton, was discovered just 17 days after Neptune itself was discovered.
Neptune is named after the Greek God Poseidon.
