Biography[edit | edit source]
She was born in Warsaw. In 1891, she left Poland to live in Paris. In France, she changed her original name of "Maria" to "Marie", which is a French name. In 1894, she met Pierre Curie; she married him in 1895. Together, they started doing scientific research about radioactivity. In 1903, Pierre and Marie were awarded the Nobel Prize in physics. In 1906, Pierre died in a road accident. Marie continued her research. In 1911, Marie Curie won another Nobel Prize, this time for chemistry. She was really famous because of her prize.
Cause of death[edit | edit source]
She died of Aplastic Anemia which was one of the damaging effects of ionising radiation. These effects were not known at the time of her work, which had been carried out without the safety measures later developed.
