Galen lived from about 130 to 200. He had Greek parents and was born in Pergamum.

He was a Roman doctor and writer.

His writings about medicine were used until the 16th century.

He was the doctor to many emperors of Rome.

He used old ideas about medicine and did experiments to make new discoveries.

He showed that arteries carried blood. He also studied the brain and the spine.
