Diego Velázquez was a Spanish painter of the Baroque era. He was born on 6 June 1599 in Seville, Spain, and died on 6 August 1660 in Madrid, Spain.

His best known works include Las Meninas (1656), Rokeby Venus (1644–1648), and The Surrender of Breda (1634–1635).
