Black and tan dachshund

The dachshund is a breed of dog. Its name is German, and means "badger hound". Dachshunds were first bred in Germany to hunt badgers. The dog will go down into a badger's hole.

Dachshunds have short legs and a long body

Dachshunds have short, little legs, and fat little feet. They have long bodies, and are sometimes called "the weiner dog" or "the hot-dog dog". They can be short haired, wire haired, or long haired, and are usually colored medium brown, red, or black with tan markings. Dachshunds are gentle, pleasant dogs, and make good family pets.
