Eugen Berthold Friedrich Brecht (1898–1956) was a German playwright and poet. He came to age after the First World War and moved to Berlin, where he wrote The Threepenny Opera. He had a great influence on modern day theatre.
Brecht was a Marxist and had to flee to Scandinavia and later to the United States. He returned after the war to East Berlin, which was now communist, and eventually died there.
