Where the Bulgarian speakers live

Bulgarian (български) is a South Slavic language, spoken by 8 to 9 million people. Bulgarian is the official language of the Eastern European country of Bulgaria and one of the official languages of the European Union. The language is seen as an recognized minority language in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Moldova, Ukraine, Serbia, Albania and Romania. Nonetheless, Bulgarian is also spoken in parts of Greece, Turkey, Russia and North Macedonia.

The language is closely related to the Macedonian language. Some linguists argue that Macedonian and Bulgarian are the same language and Macedonian is a dialect of the Bulgarian language. However, the North Macedonian government sais Macedonian is a language. Bulgarian is written in the Cyrillic alphabet, like Russian and is phonetic like Serbian.
